Stéphane Cornu, so heißt der französische DJ und Produzent Soulblast, über dessen Tracks gerade die gesamte Uptempo Szene spricht, mit bürgerlichem Namen. Wir haben den bei „Offensive Rage“ und „BKJN Future“ unter Vertrag stehenden DJ zum Interview eingeladen. (English version below)

Hard Facts: Wie bist du zu den Harder Styles gekommen und seit wann produzierst du selber Musik?
Soulblast: Ich habe als ich ungefähr 13 Jahre alt war angefangen Hard Dance Musik zu hören. Später, als ich dann die härteren Partys und Festival entdeckte, entwickelte sich meine Leidenschaft zu einem Lebensstil. Nach ein paar Jahren Mixen und DJing, begann ich im Juni 2018 selber zu produzieren und beschloss nach sehr kurzer Zeit mich zu 100% der Musik zu widmen. Ich hatte zum ersten Mal 2019 so richtig Spaß Uptempo zu produzieren und verstand sofort, dass dies das Richtige für mich war, da es ein unerwartetes Gefühl in mir auslöste.
Hard Facts: Wie bist du auf den Namen „Soulblast“ gekommen? Gibt es dazu eine Geschichte?
Soulblast: Ich entschied mich für den Namen Soulblast, nachdem ich wirklich lange darüber nachgedacht und versucht hatte, den zu finden, der am besten zu mir passt. Der Name leitet sich aus den beiden Wörtern „Soul“ und „Blast“ her, was zusammen „Explosionsatem“ bedeuten soll. Wenn ich auflege oder produziere, versuche ich immer, dem Publikum mitzuteilen, was mich repräsentiert. Durch diesen Austausch fühlt es sich für mich so an, als ob „meine Seele weggeblasen wird“ und ich gehe davon aus, dass ich mit meiner Musik eure Seele auch „explodieren lasse“.
Hard Facts: Offensive Rage und BKJN Future, bei welchen du unter Vertrag stehst, sind große Namen in der Uptempo Szene. Wie sind die Labels auf dich aufmerksam geworden? Und kannst du einen Tipp geben, wie solche Labels auf kleinere Produzenten aufmerksam werden?
Soulblast: Arbeit! Um ehrlich zu sein, ist Arbeit das Einzige was sich auszahlt. Anfang 2019 habe ich mich ganz auf Uptempo eingelassen, indem ich immer versucht habe das Beste aus mir herauszuholen und immer härter zu arbeiten, um besser zu werden. Man könnte sagen, dass ich eine ewige unzufriedene Person bin und immer auf der Suche nach etwas Neuem bin, was manchmal ein bisschen nervig sein kann, mir aber auch ermöglicht immer weiter zu gehen und neue Dinge auszuprobieren.
Von meiner Familie und meinen Freunden gedrängt, beschloss ich schließlich, meine Projekte an einige DJs zu senden um Feedback und Ratschläge zu erhalten. Einer dieser DJs war Cryogenic, welchem meine Arbeit sehr gefiel und mir durch seinen Support sehr beim Wachsen half, sowie mir anbot bei seinem Label „Offensive Rage“ zu unterschreiben.
Anfangs ging es natürlich mehr um lokale Buchungen. Der Name des Clubs oder der Party spielte für mich keine Rolle, denn mein einziges Ziel war es so viel wie möglich zu spielen und möglichst viele Menschen zu erreichen, um meine Gefühle mit ihnen zu teilen. Letzten Sommer bekam ich dann von „BKJN Future“ ein Vertragsangebot, welches ich offensichtlich angenommen habe, was ein Traum der in Erfüllung ging!
Zusammenfassend wäre der einzige Ratschlag den ich geben könnte: Arbeitet hart, lasst niemals von dem los was ihr wirklich wollt und glaubt immer an euch selbst.
Hard Facts: Was war für dich bis jetzt der größte Moment in deiner Karriere?
Soulblast: Der bisher beste Moment in meiner Karriere war die Unterschrift bei „BKJN Future“ und „Offensive Rage“, weil ich so hart an meinen Projekten gearbeitet habe. Diese Angebote waren eine Art Ehrung für meine Arbeit und machten mich stolz, sowie absolut zufrieden. Sie waren ein Zeichen dafür, dass ich mich gut auf meine Musik fokussiert hatte. Ich denke, dass jeder Künstler so eine Art der Anerkennung irgendwann braucht.
Außerdem würde ich sagen, dass WTK in Avignon (Frankreich) im letzten November eine meiner besten Event-Erinnerungen ist. Ich hatte dort die Gelegenheit auf einer fantastischen Bühne vor einem tobenden Publikum zu spielen. Aber die letzte BKJN vs Partyraiser war für mich ein absolutes Highlight: Ich durfte mein Set in einem vollen Raum für ein sehr aufnahmefähiges Publikum spielen. Dafür hatte ich ein Set mit fast nur exklusiven Tracks vorbereitet, einschließlich meiner neuen E.P., neue Remixes usw. .. und ich kann nur sagen, dass es absolut krank war!
Hard Facts: Gibt es für dich ein Vorbild in der Harder Styles Szene? Jemanden zu dem du aufblickst oder der für dich eine absolute Inspiration darstellt?
Soulblast: Ich habe kein wirkliches Idol. In meinen Augen ist F.Noize ein großartiger Producer vor dem ich einen großen Respekt habe. Angernoizer und Cryogenic waren immer für mich da und haben mich beraten oder bei Projekten geholfen. Ihre Art zu produzieren hat mich immer sehr fasziniert und inspiriert, weil ich denke, dass wir im Grunde das Gleiche versuchen: Das Publikum auf gute Weise zu überraschen, mit Tracks die ein wenig vom üblichen Muster abweichen. Eine Person die mich auch von Anfang an unterstützt hat, welcher ich dafür nicht genug danken kann, ist Lady Dammage.
Man könnte sagen, dass ich von vielen verschiedenen Stilen inspiriert wurde, weil ich schon immer ein Musikenthusiast war und ich denke, dass das heute meine „Stärke“ ausmacht.
Hard Facts: Deine letzte E.P. Loaded Weapons erschien letzte Woche und alle fünf Tracks stiegen direkt auf den ersten 5 Plätzen der Hardtunes Top 100 ein. Wie fühlt sich so ein schneller Aufstieg an? Hast du so eine großartige Reaktion auf deine E.P. erwartet? (Nachtrag vom Autor: Zum Zeitpunkt des Interviews lagen alle fünf Tracks der Loaded Weapons E.P. auf den Plätzen 1-5 der Hardtunes Top 100)
Soulblast: Das Ergebnis der E.P. war in der Tat erstaunlich. Viele Leute warteten darauf und ich wollte wirklich die perfekte erste E.P. abliefern, deshalb dauerte auch die Veröffentlichung länger als gedacht. Es war eine große Überraschung für ungefähr zehn Tage die Nummer 1 in der Hardtunes Top 100 zu sein und es ist definitiv motivierend für alles was noch kommt. Ich hatte nicht ansatzweise mit so einer „Antwort“ des Publikums gerechnet.

Hard Facts: Mit wem würdest du gerne mal zusammenarbeiten und mit was für Collabs von dir können wir in Zukunft rechnen? Vielleicht eine Erweiterung des Horizonts durch Collabs mit DJs aus anderen Harder Styles Genres? Vielleicht sogar ein eigenes Album?
Soulblast: Ich habe tatsächlich eine Menge Collabs in Arbeit oder in Planung, wie zum Beispiel mit The Dark Horror, Cryogenic, Insane S, Trespassed und einigen anderen. Ich denke, dass Collabs mit DJs aus anderen Harder Style Genres eine wichtige Sache sind, denn dies ermöglicht es den Künstlern und dem Publikum ihren Horizont zu erweitern und sich dadurch nie zu langweilen. Ich habe eine Leidenschaft für Musik im Allgemeinen und finde Gefallen an fast jedem Genre. Dies bringt mich dazu immer nach neuen Wegen zu produzieren zu suchen und die „Codes“ ein wenig zu brechen.
Einige neue Projekte sind bereits fertig, unter anderem mit Angernoizer oder MBK. Ihr werdet davon bestimmt bald hören. Andere Projekte mit „vielfältigen Künstlern“ werden ebenfalls bald das Licht der Welt erblicken, aber dazu werde ich im Moment nicht mehr sagen .. 😉
Hard Facts: Bei deinem letzten Auftritt auf dem 2nd Floor bei „BKJN vs. Partyraiser – Return To The Kingdom“ hast du die Menge zum Toben gebracht. Denkst du der Vibe auf einem kleinen Floor kann mehr Spaß machen als auf dem Mainfloor vor tausenden von Leuten zu spielen?
Soulblast: Mein erstes BKJN vs Partyraiser war einfach verrückt. Für mein erstes Mal dort wollte ich wirklich richtig hart zuschlagen. Ich hatte ein fast 100% exklusives Set mit vielen neuen Tracks vorbereitet, von denen die meisten unveröffentlicht sind oder auch Edits von meinen „bekannten“ Tracks. Natürlich habe ich auch meine E.P. gespielt, welche erst zwei Tage zuvor veröffentlicht worden war. Ich konnte an dem Abend eine Menge erleben, die bei jedem meiner Tracks ausrastete und dauerhaft lächelte. Ich schwöre euch, dass ich noch nie so viel Gänsehaut in einer Stunde hatte!
Ich freue mich wirklich sehr auf mein erstes Mal auf einer Mainstage, auf die Gelegenheit einem größeren Publikum meine Arbeit zu zeigen. Und ich kann euch versprechen, dass ich etwas sehr exklusives für diesen Anlass vorbereiten werde!
Ich bin jemand der immer 200% bei seiner Musik gibt und etwas mit Liebe macht. Ich freue mich sehr darauf, all diese Emotionen zu teilen und mit euch auf großen Bühnen zu arbeiten. Musik ist für mich vor allem ein Moment des Teilens und deswegen liebe ich es auch immer auf einer kleineren Stage zu spielen, weil dort die Nähe zum Publikum größer ist und die Energie anders, viel intimer ist.
Hard Facts: Wann und wo kann man dich denn die nächsten Male auflegen sehen und hören? (Nachtrag vom Autor: Zum Zeitpunkt des Interviews war alles, was durch Corona bis jetzt passiert ist, noch nicht absehbar.)
Soulblast: In Bezug auf die nächsten Party oder Festival weiß ich aktuell, wegen COVID-19, nicht mehr als ihr, da alle Partys, leider, abgesagt worden .. aber ich werde euch natürlich über meine Social Media Accounts über alles auf dem Laufenden halten!

Stéphane Cornu, that‘s the real name of the French DJ and producer Soulblast, whose tracks are currently being talked about by the entire Uptempo scene. We invited the DJ, who is under contract with „Offensive Rage“ and „BKJN Future“, for an interview.
Hard Facts: How did you get to into the Harder Styles and how long have you been producing music yourself?
Soulblast: Well I’ve been listening to hard dance music since I was about 13. It’s afterwards, when I discovered hard festivals and parties that this passion turned into a lifestyle. After a few years mixing and DJing, I started producing in June 2018 and really soon decided to dedicate myself 100% percent to the music. I had my first fun producing uptempo hardcore music in January 2019 and immediately understood that was the right thing for me to do, I then found in it an unexpected feeling.
Hard Facts: How did you come up with the name „Soulblast“? Is there a story about this?
Soulblast: I chose the name Soulblast after thinking about it for a long, long time and trying to find the one that would suit me the most. This name is taken from the two words „Soul“ and „Blast“ which can be described as the „breath of explosion“ because when I play or produce, I always try to share with the audience what represents me and by this exchange you blow my soul and I like to think that I blow yours.
Hard Facts: Offensive Rage and BKJN Future, with which you are under contract, are big names in the uptempo scene. How did you got the attention of the labels? Can you give a tip how smaller producers can get the attention of such labels?
Soulblast: Work!! To be honest, work is truly the only thing that pays. At the beginning of 2019, I completely put myself into Uptempo by always trying to give the best of myself and work harder and harder to get better. You could say that I’m an eternal unsatisfied person and I’m always looking for something new, which can kind of be a pain in the ass but also allows me to always go further.
Pushed by my family and friends, I finally decided to send my projects to a few DJs to get feedback and advice, including between others Cryogenic who liked my work a lot, helped me growing and offered me to sign with Offensive Rage. Back at the time I started mixing, it was more about local bookings of course. The club or party name didn’t even matter, my only goal was to play as much as possible and try to reach as many people as I could, share my emotions with them.
Then last summer I got approached by BKJN Future for a contract proposal that I obviously agreed on, what a dream! To sum up, only piece of advice i could give would be to work hard, never let go of what you really want and always believe in yourself!
Hard Facts: What has been the greatest moment/achievement in your career so far?
Soulblast: The best moment of my career so far stays my signing on BKJN Future and Offensive Rage because I had been working so hard on my projects, these proposals were a kind of an awaited recognition for my work and a huge pride and satisfaction for me, a sign that I did good focusing on my music and I think every artist needs that recognition at some point.
Besides that, I would say that one of my best event memories so far was WTK in Avignon (France) last November, where I had the chance to play on an amazing stage I’m front of a crazy dedicated crowd! An other obvious one was last BKJN vs Partyraiser where I really enjoyed playing my set in front of a full packed room and a very receptive audience. I had prepared a set with almost only exclusive tracks and including my new EP, edits, remixes etc… and I can tell you that it was fire!
Hard Facts: Do you have an idol in the harder styles scene? Someone you look up to or who is absolutely inspiring for your work?
Soulblast: I don’t particularly have an idol, I really like what F-Noize does because I think he’s a very great producer and I have a lot of respect for him, but there’s also Angernoizer or Cryogenic who have always been there for me, to advise me and help me in my project. Their way of producing has always intrigued and inspired me a lot because I think we are basically looking for the same thing: surprising the audience in the good way, with tracks that are a bit different from the usual pattern. I’ve also always been supported by great DJs like Lady Dammage from the very beginning, and I couldn’t thank them enough for their help!
You could say that I’ve been inspired by a lot of different styles because I’ve always been a music passionate, and I think that’s what makes my „strength“ today.
Hard Facts: Your last E.P. ‚Loaded Weapons‘ was released last week and all 5 tracks went straight into the top 5 places oft he Hardtunes Top 100. How does such a quick climb‘ feel like? Have you expected such a great reaction to your E.P.? (Abbendum from the author: At the time of the interview all 5 tracks of the Loaded Weapons E.P. were in places 1-5 of the Hardtunes Top 100.)
Soulblast: The coming out of the EP was indeed amazing, a lot of people were waiting for it and I really wanted to do things right for my first EP, that’s why the release took a little longer than expected. I had the huge surprise to be #1 on Hardtunes Top100 for about ten days and it was very motivating for what’s coming next! I didn’t expect such a response from the audience for my first « big » release.

Hard Facts: Who would you like to work with and what kind of collabs can we expect in the future? Maybe experiencing new horizons with DJs from other Harder Styles Genres? Maybe even creating your own album?
Soulblast: I actually have a lot of collabs in progress or planned as one with The Dark Horror, Cryogenic, Insane S but also Trespassed and many others. I have a lot of faith into collabs because I think it’s a really important thing that allows both the artists and the audience to open up to new horizons and never get bored.
Several tracks are already finished, with Angernoizer or MBK among others, you will probably hear about them pretty soon! Other projects with more varied artists will also see the light of day soon, but i won’t say more about that for the moment…
I’m passionate about music in general and I like a lot of different genres, almost everything actually, and this leads me to always search for new ways of producing and try to break the codes a little bit.
Hard Facts: At your last gig on the 2nd floor at ‚BKJN vs. Partyraiser – Return To The Kingdom‘ you made the crowd go wild with every track you played. Do you think the vibe on a small floor can be more fun than playing on the main floor in front of thousands of people?
Soulblast: That first BKJN vs Partyraiser was just crazy. For my first one, I really wanted to hit it really hard! I had prepared an almost 100% exclusive set with a lot of new tracks, most of them not released yet and also lots of edits from my „known“ tracks. I obviously played my new EP as well, which had been released just two days before. I witnessed a crazy crowd going wild on each of my tracks, smiles on every face, I can swear to you that I never had so many goosebumps in just one hour!!!
I’m indeed really looking forward to my first time on a
mainstage, to having the opportunity to show my work to a bigger audience and I
can tell you that I will prepare something totally exclusive for the occasion! I
always give myself 200% in my music and do thing with love and I am looking forward
to sharing all these emotions and work with you guys on big stages. Music to me
is above all a moment of sharing, and that’s why it’s also always a pleasure to
play in a small room, it allows a greater closeness with the audience and the
energy is therefore different, more intimate!
Hard Facts: When and where can we see and hear you playing next? (Addendum from the author: At the time of the interview, everything that had happened because of Corona was not foreseeable.)
Soulblast: Concerning the next parties or festivals, unfortunately I don’t really know what will happen next, COVID-19 having caused the cancellation of most of the upcoming events… I will of course keep you posted on all my socials as soon as we know a little bit more about the progress of the situation!
