ENGLISH VERSION BELOW! Wenn man an die Harder Styles denkt, dann kommt einem sofort eine Sache in den Kopf: DJs. Aber habt ihr euch schon einmal gefragt wie der ein oder andere Sänger in die Harder Styles gekommen ist? Um diese Frage zu beantworten, habe ich mir zwei talentierte Singer & Songwriter eingeladen. Was diese mir erzählten? Das lest ihr heute.
Wie einige von euch vielleicht bereits wissen, gibt es DJs, die schon öfters die Lyrics zu ihren eigenen Tracks gesungen haben, ein Beispiel dafür wäre Ran-D. Die meisten DJs benutzen aber immer noch Samples aus Sample Packs oder Samples aus Filmen und Serien. Dann gibt es aber auch noch eine dritte Form, um die Lyrics für einen Track zu produzieren: Die Zusammenarbeit mit Singer & Songwritern. Genau diese Singer & Songwriter will ich euch in diesem Artikel näherbringen. Dazu haben wir zwei sehr talentierte Sänger der Harder Styles interviewt.
Behind Wildstylez, Sound Rush & Co
Der Erste davon wird sich euch nun einmal selber vorstellen: „Hi, ich bin Michael Jo, Singer & Songwriter aus den Niederlanden. Ich schreibe hauptsächlich Songs für Harder Styles DJs. All diese Tracks schreibe ich zusammen mit meinem Team Fireworx. Bis jetzt habe ich alle Songs, die ich selber geschrieben habe, auch wirklich gesungen. Ihr könntet mich eventuell von Tracks mit Wildstylez, Sound Rush, Atmozfears, Keltek, Wasted Penguinz, Jay Reeve, Audiotricz, Devin Wild, Adrenalize oder meinem neusten Track mit JDX kennen.“
Falls einige von euch Michael und seine begnadete Stimme noch nicht erleben durften, erspare ich euch das jetzige Suchen auf YouTube und habe hier den neusten Track von Michael Jo für euch:
Die Berührung mit den Harder Styles
Da es mich immer sehr interessiert wie andere Menschen die Harder Styles kennengelernt haben, habe ich Michael natürlich gefragt wie er mit der Musik in Verbindung gekommen ist: „Ich denke das ist eine witzige Geschichte und es klingt vielleicht ein wenig verrückt, aber es ist einfach durch Glück passiert. Ich habe 2017 einige Songs zusammen mit meinen Freunden (welche jetzt mein Team sind) geschrieben und damit begann die ganze Reise. Einer dieser Songs, welchen wir schrieben war „Colours Of The Night“, welcher später mein erster Release mit der Legende Wildstylez werden sollte. Davor hatte ich keine Ahnung von dem Genre. Als ich das Video zu „Colours“, welches bei der Qlimax 2017 gedreht wurde, gesehen habe, war ich einfach nur sprachlos! Ich wusste nicht, wie gigantisch das gesamte Szenario war. Danach habe ich ein bisschen recherchiert und bin in die Szene eingetaucht. Ich hörte die Arbeit von Jonathan Mendelsohn und David Spekter und bin seit diesem Zeitpunkt dem Sub-Genre Euphroic Hardstyle verfallen …“, so der Niederländer mit dem markanten Bart.
Des Weiteren: „Mein erstes Hardstyle Festival war die Defqon.1 2019. Ich hatte die Ehre dieses, Sonntagmorgen, zu eröffnen und einige Songs zusammen mit dem Hardstyle-Pianisten zu singen. Dieser Tag wird mir immer als einer der besten in meinem Leben in Erinnerung bleiben. Die Atmosphäre von dem Festival ist phänomenal und einzigartig. Alle haben, zusammen als eine Familie, das Wochenende ihres Lebens. Ich hatte die Chance das Festival aus jedem Winkel zu sehen und backstage bei jeder Bühne zu sein, welches eine großartige Erfahrung für mich war. Es hat mir die Augen geöffnet, wie schön diese Szene wirklich ist.“
Die Bedeutung von ‚Skywards‘ und ‚Breakaway‘
Zum Abschluss war es für mich noch interessant zu wissen, welche seiner eigenen Tracks Michael am meisten bedeuten: „Das ist DIE schwierigste Frage überhaupt!“ lacht der Niederländer. „Jeder Song hat eine bestimmte Bedeutung für mich oder für die Leute die diese hören. Aber wenn ich mich entscheiden müsste, dann wären es Skywards von Audiotricz und Sound Rush – Breakaway.“ Und warum bedeuten diese Tracks Michael so viel? „Skywards ist etwas das mich an meine Wurzeln erinnert, an die Zeit als ich noch jünger war und in meiner alten Band gespielt habe. Ich mag den Fakt wirklich, dass die beiden die Gitarre in ihren Tracks benutzen. Dies gibt dem Ganzen eine völlig andere Dimension, gerade live. Und ich glaube, dass mein Team und ich direkt den Nagel auf den Kopf getroffen habe, als wir gefragt wurden, ob wir den Song für sie schreiben und singen können.
Außerdem ist Breakaway ist ein Song der mir wichtig ist, weil ich denke, dass die Fans und die Festival Season diesen legendär gemacht haben. Er ist einfach ein absolutes Highlight in den Sound Rush Sets geworden. Die Brüder fragten uns, ob wir an zwei Tracks für sie arbeiten wollen. Diese wollten sie bei der Qlimax 2018 spielen. In dieser Session haben wir „Breakaway“ und „Together As One“ (mit Atmozfears) geschrieben. Die beiden Jungs sind so enthusiastisch und talentiert. Es bringt Energie mit ihnen zu arbeiten. Die Zwillinge sind mittlerweile gute Freunde von mir und ich hatte die Ehre zwei Tracks für ihr Album zu schreiben: Dabei handelt es sich um den Titel-Track „Brothers“ und „Crazy“, ihre Collab mit Atmozfears (noch nicht released). Ich für meine Teil hoffe darauf noch mehr solch schöner Songs, zusammen mit Soundrush, in der Zukunft zu schaffen.“
Bevor ich euch etwas über meinen zweiten Interview-Gast erzähle, hat Michael noch eine Nachricht an euch Leser und seine Fans: „Zu wissen wie viele Menschen auf der Welt sich meine Tracks anhören und durch meine Stimme berührt werden, ist so ziemlich die schönste Sache der Welt und ich bin überglücklich so etwas erleben zu dürfen. An alle die dies lesen und mir auf meinem Abenteuer folgen: Vielen lieben Dank für euren Support und eure Liebe. Ich könnte und würde dies nicht ohne euch schaffen!“
Über Regenbogenfarben und Sopran
Als zweiten Interviewgast haben wir uns Claire Classicore eingeladen. Die Britin mit den regenbogenfarbenen Haaren fällt nicht nur durch ihr Aussehen auf, sondern auch durch ihre besondere Stimme. Sie nennt sich nicht umsonst „Soprano of Hardcore“. Aus diesem Grund habe ich sie natürlich auch gefragt, wie sie auf die Idee gekommen ist Sopran mit Hardcore Musik zu mischen: „Ich denke, ein Grund warum ich Hard Dance Musik so liebe ist, dass viele Tracks von der klassischen Musik beeinflusst sind. Wenn man die Endshows sieht oder sich ein Anthem anhört, dann sind diese meist sehr theatralisch, also kam es mir ganz natürlich vor diese beiden Richtungen zu mischen. Artists wie Dr. Peacock und Sefa haben mich außerdem sehr inspiriert, weil beide gezeigt haben, dass man diese beiden Genres so gut auf einer Ebene gleichstellen kann.“

Von der Klassik in die Harder Styles
Natürlich hat mich auch bei Claire sofort dafür interessiert, wie sie den Weg in die Harder Styles gefunden hat: „Ich habe damals als klassische Sängerin angefangen, diese Szene aber am Ende verlassen, da ich mir nie so vorkam als ob ich dort hingehört habe. Dies führte dazu, dass ich die Liebe zu der Szene verlor und wirft man einen Blick in die Hardstyle Szene wird klar, dort brauche ich nicht „hineinzupassen“. Es gibt dort keine voreingenommenen Sichtweisen und dieses Gemeinschaftsgefühl, welches man auf den Festivals bekommt, dieses gibt es in keinem anderen Genre.
Es klingt wie das größte Cliché, aber als ich zum ersten Mal Hardstyle gehört habe, habe ich es zwar sofort geliebt, wusste aber absolut nicht was dies eigentlich war. Ich fühlte mich wie besessen von der Musik und begann mich über die Geschichte des Genres zu informieren, zu lernen wer die Artists sind, auch die Sub-Genres faszinierten mich und von diesem Zeitpunkt an, zogen mich Hardcore und Frenchcore in ihren Bann. Als Sängerin in den Harder Styles tätig zu sein ist für mich eine der einfachsten Dinge, die ich jemals gemacht habe, weil die Liebe und Leidenschaft einfach da sind. Jeder Track an dem ich arbeite, jeder Song zieht mich in seinen Bann und ich lege mein Herz und meine Seele in diesen. Diese Szene zieht die leidenschaftlichsten Musiker an und diese Leute sind diejenigen, mit denen ich mich umgeben möchte, einfach weil es so inspirierend ist.“
Die Wirksamkeit von Social Media
Wenn man sich Claire’s Social-Media-Kanäle einmal so anguckt, dann merkt man wie viel Arbeit sie in ihre Videos und ihr Auftreten legt. Aus diesem Grund habe ich abschließend gefragt, wie wichtig Social Media in ihren Augen heutzutage ist: „Ganz einfach, ich würde ohne Social Media nicht das tun, was ich tue. Dadurch kann ich meine ganze Arbeit mit all den Leuten auf der Welt teilen und Artists erreichen, von denen ich vorher nur geträumt habe die Möglichkeit zu bekommen, mit diesen zu arbeiten. Jedes Mal, wenn ich ein Video poste, fühlt es sich an wie seinen Lebenslauf an einen Arbeitgeber zu schicken. Es könnte einen Artist oder Q-Dance erreichen oder könnte in Venezuela geteilt werden … es kann wirklich alles passieren! Wir haben wirklich Glück so eine unglaubliche Szene zu haben, die so viel Support zeigt.
Die Hard Dance Szene hat ohne Zweifel die beste Community der Welt und hätte ich nicht die Unterstützung von völlig Fremden auf Social Media, dann würde ich nicht meine Videos machen, hätte nicht die Möglichkeiten die ich bekomme und dafür bin ich so unendlich dankbar. Es ist so leicht zu vergessen welche Auswirkung wir als Menschen auf das Leben anderer Menschen haben können. Eine Person kann, wenn sie etwas teilt was ich gemacht habe, einen Dominoeffekt auslösen der lebensverändernd ist.“

The voices of the Harder Styles – Singer & Songwriter
When you think of the Harder Styles, one thing immediately springs on your mind: DJs. But have you ever thought about how one or the other singer got into the Harder Styles? To answer this question I invited two talented singer & songwriters and you can read what they have told me now.
As some of you may already know, there are DJs who have sung the lyrics to their own songs on several occasions, an example of this is Ran-D. Most DJs still use samples from sample packs or samples from films and series. But there is also a third way of producing the lyrics for a track: Working with singers & songwriters. In this article I want to bring you a bit closer to exactly these singer & songwriters. So I invited two very talented singers for an interview.
Behind Wildstylez, Sound Rush & Co
My first guest will now introduce himself: „My pressure! I’m Michael Jo, vocalist and songwriter from the Netherlands. I write songs for dj’s, mostly in the Harder Styles. All the tracks I write together with my songwriting team called Fireworx. Until now all the songs I wrote, I also sang. You could know me from tracks for Wildstylez, Sound Rush, Atmozfears, Keltek, Wasted Penguinz, Jay Reeve, Audiotricz, Devin Wild, Adrenalize and most recently JDX.“

The touch of the Harder Styles
Since I am always very interested in how other people got to know the Harder Styles, I naturally asked Michael how he came into contact with the music: „I think that’s a funny story and It maybe sounds a bit crazy, but it all just came by pure luck. I wrote some songs with my friends (which are my team now) in 2017 and then it all started. One of the songs we wrote was: „Colours Of The Night“, later became my first Hardstyle release with legend Wildstyles. Before that I had no idea what the genre was. When I saw the video clip of „Colours“ shot on Qlimax ‘17, I was blown away!! I never knew it was this big. After that I did some research and dug into the scene. Heard the work of Jonathan Mendelsohn and David Spekter and fell in love with euphoric hardstyle ever since …“, so the Dutchman with the distinctive beard and on: „My first Hardstyle festival was Defqon.1 2019. I had the honor to open it on Sunday morning and sing a couple of songs with the hardstyle Pianist. That day I always refer to one of the best of my life. The atmosphere of that festival is phenomenal and one of a kind. Everyone as one family having the weekend of their lives. I’ve had the chance to see the festival from every angle and be backstage on every stage. That was an amazing experience for me. It really opened my eyes how beautiful this scene is.“
The meaning of ‚Skywards‘ and ‚Breakaway‘
Finally, it was very interesting for me to know which of Michaels own tracks mean the most to him: „That’s THE most difficult question haha. Every song has a certain meaning and is special to me or for the people who listen to it. But if I have to choose I would say Skywards for Audiotricz and Sound Rush – Breakaway.“ And why do these trakcs mean so much to Michael? „Skywards Is something that takes me back to my roots of playing in my old band when I was younger. I really love the fact that they use the guitar in their tracks. Gives a whole other dimension to it, especially live. And I think my team and I just nailed the song right off the bet when they asked us to write and sing on it.
And Breakaway was a song that is important to me because I think the fans and the festival season made it legendary. It just became a highlight in the Sound Rush set. The brothers asked if we wanted to work on 2 songs for them. They had the idea to showcase the songs on Qlimax ‘18. In that session we wrote „Breakaway“ and „Together As One“ (with Atmozfears) for them. Those guys are so enthusiastic and talented. It gives energie to work with them. The twins became good friends of mine and I had the pleasure to also write two songs for their album; The title track „Brothers“ and „Crazy“, their collaboration with Atmozfears (not released yet). I hope to make more beautiful songs in the future with them.“
Before I introduce you to my second interview guest, Michael has a message for all readers and fans: „It’s amazing to know that so many people around the world are listening to my voice and get moved or touched. That’s the most beautiful thing and I’m blessed that I can experience the feeling of it. To everyone who reads this and follows me on my journey; Thank you so much for your support and love. I can’t and wouldn’t do this without you!“
About rainbows and soprano
As my second guest, I invited Claire Classicore. The British girl with the rainbow-colored hair not only attracts attention because of her appearance, but also because of her special voice. She doesn’t call herself without a reason the „Soprano of Hardcore“. I asked her how she came up with the idea of mixing soprano with Hardcore music: „I think one of the reasons why I love hard dance so much is because there is a lot of classical influence behind many of the tracks. When you see the endshows or hear an anthem, they are always so theatrical and so for me it felt quite natural to mix the two. I have also been inspired by artists like Dr Peacock and Sefa who have really shown that the juxtaposition of the 2 completely different genres blurs so well.“

From classic into the Harder Styles
Of course, I was also immediately interested in how Claire found her way into the Harder Styles: „I started as a classical singer but ended up leaving the scene as I never felt like I fitted in which caused me to fall out of love for it, but with Hardstyle, I didn’t need to fit in. There are no pre-conceived views and there is a sense of community you feel at a Hard Dance festival that you just don’t get in any other genre. It sounds so cliché but I remember the exact moment I heard Hardstyle for the first time and instantly fell in love with it but had no clue what it was. I became obsessed and started learning about its history, who all the artists were, all the sub-genres and from there it’s been a gateway drug into Hardcore and Frenchcore.
For me, being a vocalist in the harder styles has been the easiest thing I’ve ever done because the love and passion is there. Every track I work on, every song I sing consumes me and I put my heart and soul into it. This scene attracts the most passionate music creators and those obsessed, passionate people are the ones I want to surround myself with, it’s so inspiring.”
The meaning of social media
If you take a look at Claire’s social media channels, you can see how much work she puts into her videos and her appearance. For this reason, I finally asked her how important social media nowadays is in her eyes: “Simply put, I would not be doing what I’m doing without it. It has allowed me to share my work with people all over the world and reach artists that I could only dream of working with. Every time I post a video, it’s like sending your CV to an employer, it could get to the artist or Q-dance or it could be shared in Venezuela…literally anything can happen! We are blessed to have the most incredible, supportive scene out there. Hard dance has the best community in the world, without doubt and If I hadn’t had the support from random strangers on social media, I wouldn’t still be making my videos, I wouldn’t have had the opportunities I’m getting and I am eternally grateful for that. It’s easy to forget the impact we as people can have on each other’s lives, just by one person sharing something I’ve done can have a ripple effect that is life changing.“
